property search continues
We are now looking at property in the Zionsville area. Generally, Zionsville is fairly exclusive. The homes are pretty expensive and I have seen land go for as much as $600,000/acre (OUCH!). Needless to say, we are not interested in that kind of property, unless some kind soul is willing to foot the bill. If that describes you, please contact me. Instead, we are looking at property that skirts the county landfill. It's still too expensive at full price, but they are willing to subdivide the land and the price/acre is about $20,000. At that price, we could pick up a couple acres. It doesn't sound terribly attractive, but the land is actually quite nice, I don't detect any odors, landfills are heavily regulated and you know that they have measures in place to protect the water table and surrounding area. On top of that, the landfill will eventually become some exclusive property (at least in Zionsville, you know that the houses on top of the hill will go for a premium) so it could be nice to have appreciating property values around the time that we are retiring. There's a fair amount of land for sale. It could be one of Zionsville's better kept secrets. Our agent is checking into their willingness to split off a couple acres somewhere.
